Working in the Business Development department at 2359 Media can be a challenging yet exciting role. From the early morning coffee run to the never-ending stream of meetings and emails, the day is always filled with new opportunities and ideas. Whether it’s brainstorming with the tech team to impress a client or coordinating with the engineering and design teams to develop proposals, the work is fast-paced and constantly evolving.
But with the hustle and bustle also comes the chance to make meaningful connections, explore new industries, and ultimately drive the success of the company. It’s a job that requires a lot of hard work and dedication, but the rewards are worth it. So follow Valerie as she goes about her day and read more about what she does!
9:00am When I get to the office, the first thing I do is check my emails and see what’s up for the day. And if everything is chill, I’ll head downstairs to grab a cup of kopi peng siu dai from the coffee shop. It’s just a small thing, but starting the day with a good cup of coffee always puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.
10:00am Time for my first meeting of the day which is our weekly sales sync-up with the team and our CEO. During the meeting, we’ll go over the sales pipelines, give updates on the accounts we’re currently managing and make sure everyone is on the same page. It’s also a great time to catch our CEO and run through any big deals or opportunities that we have, because it’s crucial to align on our strategy and vision.
12:00pm Weekly sales meetings always take a while and by the time it ends, I’m pretty hungry. Good thing it’s lunch time! Since it’s crowded everywhere around our office during this time, I usually grab something quick. The economical rice stall right below our office is my go-to spot. Even though the line may look long, it moves pretty fast and it’s one of the most affordable options in the CBD.
1:30pm Alright, back to work! Every day in the office is different, with a variety of projects and opportunities to discuss. Today, I have a meeting with some of our engineers to discuss a business opportunity. Since there wasn’t any brief given, we’re taking the lead in brainstorming ideas that could impress the client. Working with our tech team helps us narrow down ideas because we need to present solutions that are feasible.
3:00pm After the meeting, I have a short window of time to get some work done before the next one. This usually means responding to emails from clients about specific items or answering general questions about our services from potential clients.
3:30pm In my job, I also work on a lot of proposals for clients. Proposals are a team effort, so I mostly coordinate with our engineering and design teams to help develop them. When we have meetings in the office, it’s easier to come together and gather inputs on what would be the best approach for the proposal to grab the client’s attention while also making sure it meets their needs.
5:00pm During the last hour of the day, I try to look for new opportunities that we can bring to the table. This mostly involves researching industries that we believe can benefit from our services like web development or chatbot automations. Of course, this can’t just be done by looking at the surface, so I always reach out to people I think we can connect with.
6:00pm I’m done for the day! Usually after work I head for an exercise class at my neighbourhood gym in order to keep fit and also as a form of stress-relief. Working out keeps my blood flowing and also helps me stay healthy to tackle busy days!
